NewsKarina Sharif Accepted into the 2026–2027 Silver Art Projects Residency

Gallery 495 is pleased to congratulate represented artist Karina Sharif on her acceptance into the prestigious 2026–2027 Silver Art Projects Residency. Located in New York City, Silver Art Projects provides artists with year-long studio space, mentorship, and professional development, supporting emerging and mid-career practitioners as they advance ambitious new bodies of work.
Sharif’s multidisciplinary practice spans ceramic, steel, paper, ink, and family-found objects, drawing from matriarchal traditions of farming, weaving, sewing, and craft. Through sculpture and installation, her work explores memory, lineage, adornment, care, and the sacred, creating tactile spaces that honor Black femme histories while transforming inherited materials into contemporary forms of resilience and healing. Building upon nearly two decades of experience in sewing and fashion, Sharif’s practice bridges craft traditions with contemporary sculpture, inviting viewers into deeply personal yet universal reflections on ancestry, community, and belonging.
Gallery 495 is proud to celebrate this significant milestone in Sharif’s career and looks forward to the work that will emerge from her residency over the coming year.
