Karina Sharif

Karina Sharif is a multidisciplinary paper artist based in New York whose work explores preservation, storytelling, and the material and symbolic life of paper. Her practice centers Black femme, woman, trans, gender-expansive, and non-binary diasporic identities, using paper as both a medium of care and a site through which histories of labor, memory, and reverence are considered.

Sharif’s work has been presented in solo exhibitions including Elsewhere at Lyle Gallery (New York, NY), A Dream Embodied at Main Street Gallery 495 (Catskill, NY), and Adorned Metallica at Five Myles Gallery (Brooklyn, NY). Her work has also appeared in group exhibitions and design fairs including Collectible Design Fair with Lyle Gallery (New York, NY), Worthless Studios (Brooklyn, NY), Spring Studios (New York, NY), and 138 Wooster Street (New York, NY).

Sharif has completed commissions for institutions and brands including GANNI Inc., Bernard James, and Main Street Gallery 495, with works placed in collections in New York and internationally. Her work has been featured in publications such as Sight Unseen, Elephant Magazine, Cultured Magazine, W Magazine, i-D Magazine, and The Cut from New York Magazine.
