ExhibitionsA Dream Embodied

In A Dream Embodied, Karina Sharif embarks on a multifaceted exploration, integrating wearable and non-wearable works that transcend the confines of traditional storytelling. Sharif’s work pays homage to domestic practices while reworking them into a contemporary narrative. Her sculptures are sophisticated and playful, exhibiting versatility in the white cube space and functioning as wearable sculpture garments. The imagery of Black-Femme bodies wearing the works evokes a sense of adornment and protection. Her large-scale, meditative sculptures endorse the Black-Femme narrative to occupy physical and historical space.

Karina Sharif is a multidisciplinary paper artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Sharif’s work highlights multitudes of divine Black Femme-hood. Enfolded by themes of rest, adornment, spatial impact, and sensory elements, her work is crafted with intentionality on how they will interact with their surroundings. Spotlighting the beauty of the Black-Femme experience is the catalyst behind her vision and practice. While her work is coded with laborious and delicate construction, the work serves as a manifestation of restorative restitution for her viewers.
